Release 4.2 now available

In the last few month we have been working on some editor issues, especially interactions between actions on the main screen and in the detailed object list. Depending on what type of objects you’re dealing with, the length can be quite large, so we think it will help quite a lot if you can click on the main screen highlighting there and the same object will be highlighted in the detailed list. Of course, this works also the other way around.

Another change in the detailed list is the “Add more” function. Before the change it would add one more element in the list, but nothing else happens. This can lead to the problem to locate that new element in the list, especially if the internal key created for it filling a gap in the numbering scheme between other elements. It keeps you wondering, where did it go? The changes is that immediately after the object is created, a window opens with the details of the object just created. It will have just the default values, but you can go ahead to put something in there.

Then you have an incidence reported by a customer that basically prevented the simulator from running. The crash report he communicated to us indicated a problem reading communication pipe data. Such pipes are intended for communication between different processes running in Windows – much like TCP communication over the internet.  CTC creates a few sub-processes for sound processing. The main CTC process tells the sub-processes which sounds to play, when to start and when to stop. The problem was that on his, the customer’s machine, there where some pipes in that system, that had names deemed invalid by a procedure (otherwise perfectly ok) causing an exception. These things never happened on my machine.

This customer notified me that the update 4.2, which was uploaded yesterday, corrected this and another problem he had.

As you can see, it is really important to get customer feed back. I would have not known about the pipe problem otherwise.

We have been working on the manual as well. You will have noticed the new look. Navigation buttons on top of the page lets you go forward, backward, and up in the sections and subsections of the manual. The sidebar on the right displays section titles nearby where you are, which you can also click on.

We have also created a first video – that demonstrates how a simple territory can be created in three minutes with the CTC Editor. More videos will be made in the near future.
