CTC Announcements / Shopping Cart Problem
« Last post by DPump on January 03, 2018, 06:56:40 AM »
We have noticed some irregularities in our shopping cart database and found an error that caused the first item in the shopping cart list to be lost in the process.

This was a processing error in the database, not in the CTC program. Except for that one item missing, the processing of the remainder of the shopping list was not affected. In other words, the financial loss is on our side, not on yours.

This problem has now been corrected.

CTC Announcements / Registration Emails
« Last post by DPump on November 19, 2017, 08:03:28 AM »
With CTC 4.x we have redesigned the procedure how you can buy licenses for CTC code and CTC territories. Among other things, you don't have to enter registration codes that you received via Email. In fact, the capability to do that has been removed. Instead, CTC will pick the code from the internet (there is still a waiting period, since the codes are generated offline, but they should be available within 24 hours).

Therefore ...

Effective immediately, registration codes will no longer be sent out via Email. Instead, you'll get a general confirmation Email stating the above.

For further information see the user manual, particularly

      http://webrailroader.com/ctc/purchase-info/

This page shows how CTC will present the product list. Here you can see which products are available, which one you already have and so on. Before that window is shown, CTC will pick up registration codes from the internet and store it into your profile. CTC will do that also as part of the "Before we start" window processing It cannot be much easier than that!

By the way, with CTC 3.x you can still buy the licenses the old way, but you should really switch to 4.x (now actually 4.1), because now that is the only way to get the codes for your copy of CTC to work. Furthermore, the old procedure is using a list that will not be maintained anymore to add new territories, and you cannot buy the editor license in CTC 3.x. We will decommission that list sometime in the future.

CTC Announcements / Release 4.1 is now available
« Last post by DPump on November 13, 2017, 09:16:28 AM »
As always there is something wrong that requires an immediate correction!

It turns out the data passed from the internet is a little bit different when coming from a Linux server or from a Windows server, which is my local test environment (even though the source code is the same) This has caused some processing error.

Version 4.1 has this now corrected. There are no other changes.

It is available for download here http://webrailroader.com/ctc/download-page/

General Discussion / No Spamming here
« Last post by DPump on November 10, 2017, 09:43:44 AM »
We have recently observed that some people are trying to abuse this forum for spamming.

Because of that, we have changed the posting procedure to require approval before making them public. Any post that is not railroad related, will be deleted. Right now it is mostly about the CTC simulator, but other railroad related topics are admissible. But we we don't want any like prescription drug advertising or even porn posted here.

Posts having links to other sites like this may be allowed to stay but will have the link removed.

Obvious spammers may also be banned from posting in this forum.

We hope for your understanding.

CTC Announcements / Release 4.0 is now available
« Last post by DPump on November 10, 2017, 09:32:43 AM »
It is available for download here http://webrailroader.com/ctc/download-page/

This is a major upgrade, opening the version 4.x line.

This version 4.0 has the following features and changes:
  • Integrated Editor
  • Redesigned way of Purchasing
  • Train Data display redesigned
  • Lock status of switches now displayed on main screen
  • Regular Blocks can now be admin blocked
  • Reload Option added
  • Detailed List enhanced for several object types
  • Problem causing very slow acceleration of trains addressed
This is just a small list of all changes. It does not include internal enhances, optimizations, or changes in the existing structure to accommodate the editor.

We have also redesigned our manual, especially the ways you can navigate in there, due to its increased size, as it does now more explaining for things you need to understand the editor. The manual is available at http://webrailroader.com/ctc/

The manual is a work in progress, and it will be updated rather frequently. It is by far not complete yet, nevertheless we encourage you to point out things that are missing or poorly explained. We even have added a sub category "CTC manual" in this forum where you can make comments and suggestions regarding the documentation.

The editor, by the way, is also still a work in progress, since it is a very complex thing, especially the interaction between different panels where you can instigate any changes, and also regarding the tools that should make modifications to your territory much easier than going down to low level and change things one by one. If you have suggestions or bug reports, you can place them in the sub categories already established in this forum.

Oh yes - this upgrade from 3.24 or earlier is free, including a demo version of the editor (available if you have the standard license).

General Discussion / Re: Two verification questions - are you serious?

Really boggles the mind reading "complaints" like this one. Took way much more effort to write that than to fill out those 2 verification boxes.

I'm not sure where to put this so I guess I'll put it here. I just want to say that I am very impressed https://www.tenderbuttons.com/d-bal-review-results with Dbal by CTC's efforts. Such a great improvement over TD3! Yes, it doesn't have certain features (yet) but it does have better features such as the ability to stop trains at either end of a block. Nothing worse than waiting for a train to stop a mile after clearing its intended switch ie like TD3. Great job! I truly appreciate all you have done so far. Two thumbs up.  :)

You're so right WD it's a big improvement.

No, it is not dead, and everything has to do with the editor.

Just that you know, I thought a good editor should have an undo/redo function, especially considering there are some complex functions. Now you can internally save at every point which you may consider worth an undo point (which would slow down regular editing), or you can set up a kind of journal file that you can run to redo things. Unfortunately, this requires an additional layer to input changes, and to generate the input strings that could be used for this. Besides, you have to re-think certain items what they exactly mean and how to handle them,

Follow me?

When we offer the editor, I thought it would be a good time to pick up a suggestion by one of the users to implement some kind of shopping cart, so that you don't have to pay every item separately (as it is right now), but to pay for several items in one step. An added benefit is that you won't have to cut and paste the registration code from the emails - CTC will be able to pick it from the internet.

As for the simulator itself, the crew time check is in the works. I also came up with a way to indicate the lock status of switches in the layout.

I admit it has been a while (I have been busy with other things as well), but I guess once the editor is out there will be quite some suggestions and complaints requiring more frequent updates after that.

General Discussion / Any Further Progress

Hi Detlef. I could have just sent you an e-mail but I figured that I would just post my question here in case anyone else is interested as well. My question is, I noticed the board and releases have been pretty quiet since last year so I am curious to know if CTC is dead? It holds so much promise therefore I really hope that is not the case. I thought I had read somewhere that an editor was getting close to release soon but I haven't found where I had read that. I hope all is well.  :)
